In honor of Earth Day, Something Different has partnered with Sustain
DuPage to use their music to bring awareness to how we humans can thrive
and be in harmony with the Earth. It is their deepest belief that music
is a uniting energy and has the power to build community that honors
diversity.
Sustain DuPage is a not-for-profit group dedicated to creating a
sustainable culture in this county. Sustainability is, Meeting the needs
of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to
meet their own needs. Sustain DuPage believes that in order to create
this the needs of people, the environment, and the economy must all be in
balance. They have taken on several projects that meet this criteria
including a community garden, restoration of natural habitats and an
environmental commission to advise municipal governments on the impacts of
their actions. For more information visit http://sustaindupage.com/.
Something Different formed in 2014 as a way to show the versatility of the
Native American Flute. Pat Smith and Karen Tlusty-Rissman play flutes to
the accompaniment of John Rissmans skillful guitar, ukulele, bouzouki and
didgeridoo. Their compositions include blues, ballads, Latin, Middle
Eastern and other musical genres. It is their greatest joy to share
original music that celebrates all cultures.
This concert will feature new pieces including a multi-media presentation
of Pat's experience in Bali and the poetry of Maureen Meshenberg.
Come and enjoy this amazing concert event and support Sustain DuPage!
"Something Different's" John Rissman, Karen Tlusty and Pat Smith accentuate the versatility of the many instruments plus the Native American flute with music of the world - Latin, Celtic, Middle Eastern, folk, blues, meditation and other musical genres in original compositions. As a solo instrument, in the talented hands or Karen and Pat, it has a lovely haunting sound that research has shown to reduce stress and to promote relaxation.
All are welcome!!!
